Point 2 Point
For those of you not familiar with this form of racing, Point to Point racing represents the very beginnings of Irish jumps action, with the first recorded steeplechase in Ireland being held in 1752. This was a match race between Cornelius O’Callaghan and Edmund Blake and they raced from the church steeple in Buttevant to the church steeple in Doneraile, which is four and a half miles away.
The racing is now regulated by the Irish Turf Club. Races are run over a distance of 3 miles and 16 fences, with the exception of some four-year-old races which are run over two and half miles. At each meeting, the races are scheduled to cater for horses of differing age, sex and ability.
